Empty

No poet wants to be a writer of shallow rhymes

or wants to waste theirs or their readers time

It doesn’t matter how great of a gift you have

if you don’t use it wise(ly)

If you squander what you’re given

then you end up like a

kerosene lamp that’s empty

Useless to anybody

Stand Strong, Stand Wise, Don’t Apologize

If you’ve got truth to share,

always do it boldly

Don’t back down, don’t flinch,

Don’t give in one inch

Don’t let those that hate it win

Because once they shut you up

Once they got you under their thumb

It’s quite the challenge to rise up again

If you ever can,

Stand strong, stand wise, don’t apologize

Musical Hero (Literally)

His hair has turned pure silver now

but I still recall when it was

a deep dark blackish-brown

It’s hard for me to see him growing so old

but I’m just glad he’s still around

His music more than once rescued me, seriously

by helping me out in times of misery

bringing sweet hope & wisdom to my ears

Sometimes things I desperately needed to hear

Lessons

People are inspired to walk straighter when they’re responsible

for guiding another soul because they don’t want to cause that soul

to stumble into a dark hole

Parents should always guide children in Love, Discipline & Truth

It’s the best thing to do, guaranteed, absolute

That’s the wisdom I’ve learned, and I share it with you

Wisdom

A fellow poet once said

“What you risk reveals what you value”

and you know what? That’s absolutely true

and that pearl of wisdom is not new,

Many sages have said similar things

through the ages, but not everybody listens

I’d like to end with this:

Shane, thank you
