Pocket Change For A Picture Show

A great Houston poet loves singing the blues

remembers playing in Texas mud

without any shoes

getting that grit up between his toes

& paying merely pocket change for a picture show

He says “Man oh, Man, that was so

many, many years ago”

& his face lights up in the brightest glow

Marfa Lights

Ever since I was a young one,

I heard stories of the Marfa lights

How they shined bright

and lit up those Marfa,

Texas city nights

Where they come from

is a great mystery

One that could go forever unsolved

& it’d be fine by me, some say “ghosts”

and that’s absurd to me

Some say “natural anomaly”

The debate could rage for ages,

but why not just let it be

& enjoy the lights just for their beauty?

Passion Uncaged

A guitar man unmatched,

a breath of fresh air in his generation

Silenced too soon,

his life is still an inspiration

Though it can’t be denied

he brought the house down

every time he’d climb on the stage

with pure & raw talent,

and passion uncaged,

He remained just a humble Texas boy

Loved the music, loved to play

Didn’t care even for a moment about world acclaim

Just using his music to touch hearts every day

Dallas Blues

Kenneth went down to Texas, to play Dallas blues

Didn’t have much else going for him, said “what have I got to lose?”

His talent was obvious, clear as a bell, the more he made his audience smile,

the more in love with it he fell, but there were some people who wanted

to change him, because they only cared about what would sell

He told them:

“If I gave into you, I couldn’t face myself”
