who saw years of struggle
turned into success
in ways he never could have fathomed or guessed,

Earns his keep with work,
words & rhyme,
Blood, sweat, tears & time
Never going to beg
for a doggone dime

This is a story, of a girl named Lily
She calls herself “an overnight sensation
-years in the making”
All the miles & the struggles were real
To be able, night after night to reveal
To her fans just how she feels
Pouring everything she’s got into her songs

A man with his face sunken in,
looks like he could die any minute
he’s had a rough go of life
He’s got to admit
but somehow he’s still kicking
There’s things he’s done in his past
that he regrets but can’t take back,
We’ve all been through that,
all he can do is seek out forgiveness
for taking so much for granted
& take responsibility for his own mess
& live w/the consequence

Delia was a young girl, born in a city near the Rio Grande
Her Daddy was an agricultural man, Always just doing the best he can
By the time Delia was eight years old, She joined him working her time away
Hardly had the chance to go to school, barely rested or even played
She worked hard, sweating in the heat
but oh, she never complained,
She had callouses on her hands, blisters on her feet
She would do anything she could
To help her family make ends meet

Their run down motel room
felt like a stone cold tomb
They were spending some time
on the desperate side of life
So far removed from paradise
A little girl looked in her daddy’s eyes
He told her “baby girl we’re gonna be alright,
if we don’t give up the fight“

Though I am a man of faith
I won’t claim I understand everything
there are things I’ve struggled with,
wondering, questioning
but nonetheless I still trust in Jesus,
the everlasting King of Kings

They’re each working hard every week
to make the rent
There’s more month than money,
it’s all quickly spent
but they’ve still got their happiness
People often wonder how they do it
They say:
“we make time for the little things,
in each other’s arms we find our bliss,
Take nothing for granted, each night before
we go to sleep, we end our days w/a heartfelt kiss”

A lot of people want everything easy & free
but something that I’ve worked hard for
is so much sweeter to me
I might get frustrated along the way
but everything is still worthwhile
at the end of the day
