Basketball bouncing on hot concrete
Best player on the team moving his feet
Quickly, he refuses to be
beat, he brings the heat
Before the game ends
he gives everything he’s got
makes one epic final shot
All is said & done

Inspired by a film I saw recently.
Early on in life his future was looking bright
He was a hometown star on Friday nights
His daddy said: “boy, go ahead you make me proud”
One night an injury took him down,
the boy said:
“daddy don’t you worry now, it’s not the end for me,
I’ll be back out there on the field soon, you’ll see,
I’ll continue to be all the things that we ever dreamed,
all I need is for you to not give up on me“

In Cheyenne Wyoming he’s riding once again
His skin is tough as rawhide
& he’s got a perpetual deep dark tan
He’s ridden broncs for 20 years,& he’s got no plans
of slowing down or giving up, until he literally no longer can

A rodeo man holding on with everything he’s got
Never letting on for a minute that his stomach is in knots
Trying to finish w/a good score & just make it out alive
all the while he can hear
& feel his heart pounding inside,
Then comes the next show & another wild ride

Lane was a rodeo man
One of the best there had ever been
He lost his life one July in Cheyenne
but his legacy inspired generations

He was a motocross racer, fearless, reckless
His competition ate his dust for breakfast
Everybody who knew him, called him
the best there’d been,
he always worked like crazy to win

I never was a big football fan,
I know that’s surprising since I’m a man
and classically many are
I was always just more into the arts
As for football, I can respect some people’s zeal
without personally understanding the great appeal
