I heard a songwriter say something that struck me
as so very wrong
How people knew the artists who recorded his songs
but that they didn’t really have a clue
who he was @ all
It really is a heartbreaking plight
When the artists find success,
but the songwriters are forgotten
Like a shadow faded into the night
I don’t know about you
but I would love to see them
get more of the credit they are due

I dreamed of Nashville, when I was just a kid
Mama said that she’d take me there,
but she never did
All these years later, I still want to go
That desire burns big & bright
every time I listen to the radio
I wanted to go there as a singer
but maybe all along
I was meant to be a poet there
& take Nashville my songs
