Happy Birthday, Baby Boy

Written for my son’s birthday tomorrow

Happy Birthday, baby boy

It’s been great to watch you grow

I wish you many, many more

& Love you more than you’ll ever know

We Can Handle That Too

I remember when my son was born I took a deep breath

Wondering how I would manage, I’ve got to confess

Some of those early days about scared me to death

when everything was so brand new

but somehow we made it through

We got a long way to go, but you know that’s alright

I know we can handle that too

Beautiful & Challenging

My son starts first grade today, and I’m thrilled for that,

though it’s still hard to believe how quickly these last six years

have passed

Even though it’s hard to wrap my mind around

watching him grow up has been a sweet privilege so profound

I look forward to the future, seeing what it will bring,

I’m sure it will continue to be both parts beautiful & challenging

Father/Son Fun

My six year old son & I are playing around with rhymes

the ones we’re putting together are so simple sometimes

Mouse, house, cat, hat, stuff like that,

nothing fancy, but that’s alright,

I just love having fun together while I write

I know that his childhood will go by fast

In the blink of an eye, a flash,

but in the here & now, we’re having a blast
