Rebecca (Another Poetic Story)

A kind of free verse piece

Rebecca worked in a bookstore in a small town, that’s often how her days were spent. She chose that career as more than just a way to pay for the rent, or gas to get around. She adored books.

She’d say they were some of her truest loves in every sense you could possibly think of.

Anyone who knew her would say she was more than a bit obsessed, some might even think it unhealthy, something needing to be seriously addressed.

She read voraciously, everything from full novels to poetry.

She wanted to be a writer too from an early age.

She felt sometimes that other aspects of life could be mundane, she sometimes felt trapped like a caught animal in a cage, but when she’d write, or when she’d read, or help another avid reader find the books they need that’s when she felt the most free.

Surprises (A short poetic story)

“Find a good woman and settle down” that’s the advice of everybody in town, but John, he’s still busy building his dream from the ground up, says he’s not ready, or looking yet for that kind of Love.

His parents, they worry that he’ll let it slip through his hands, because he’s too distracted with his original plans.

Nonetheless, they know it’s his life to live, they’re just there for him with all the familial Love and advice they can give.

He says “I appreciate your concern, I really do, and I respect your advice and your point of view, thank you for respecting mine too, even though I don’t think like you.”

He continues, “maybe I’ll be ready one day, if the right one comes, I promise not to turn her away…I know not everything can be planned right down to the letter, and sometimes the surprises are even better.”

The Light In Your Smile

Tommy thought to himself “I’ve had all the lonely I can stand”

as he sat and stared out a window with a cold cup of coffee in his hand

He called up his best friend Jane, said “Can you please come by today?

she hadn’t seen him in what felt more like months than days,

Jane said “I thought you’d never ask, I’ll be there right away”

When she arrived, Tommy greeted her w/a hug

Said, “Thanks for coming by, it’s good to see you, I’m sorry it’s been a while,

and I’ve really missed the light in your smile”

Nickel In A Jukebox

Judy put a nickel in a jukebox

Grabbed Buddy by the hand

Said:

“What are you waiting for,

get your dance on, man”

Buddy wasn’t the best dancer,

that’s something everybody knew

but Judy’s energy was infectious,

her smile lit up the room,

Buddy didn’t want to hurt her feelings,

He said, “I’d do anything for you”

so they danced til the night was through
