I’ve got a hundred poets voices ringing in my head,
Many generations giving me inspiration,
Oh the living ones & the dead,
I don’t mean that they literally talk to me
That would be spooky & crazy,
but the work they put to paper,
the work I love to read & study,
helps me & guides me

What she protected fiercely wasn’t silver or gold
But something more precious, her children
Though she knew the world can be cold
She had the heart of a dragon,
a warrior’s soul
She fought with a passion
that was fiery & bold

There are many that enjoy crushing souls
& leaving holes, they spread brutality
So eagerly, like monstrous trolls
they’re stone cold, but we…
We’ve got the victories over them
Because while they are calloused & cruel
We choose instead, to let Love rule

People in their town always claimed
he came from the wrong side of the tracks,
and that they would surely never last
but she just knew she Loved him & he Loved her back
and they both had faith they could build a life on that
Despite those that thought their Love would go wrong

When he was born
His Dr’s thought he would surely die
but they never knew the strength
of the warrior spirit he had inside

& he is still alive
and every day with every heartbeat

I remember growing up listening to
“Jack & Diane”, “Rain On The Scarecrow”,
“Desperado” and “Simple Man”
There are so many other songs
in the soundtrack of my life
They’ll stick with me, surely,
Until the day I die
& when my time is over
& I’ve got no more seasons in the sun
I’ll leave a mutual love of music etched

I want to take a momentary break from posting poetry to tell you all about one of the things that inspires me to continue to write it. When I was a High School Sophomore, there was a certain friend of mine who said to me one day after reading some of my poetry “You really have a gift, pursue it” or something to that effect.
That stoked the fire I already had in my heart for it. I am forever grateful for the encouragement, and will continue to write poetry for as long as I am able.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a famous artist
or some back porch poet
If you’ve got something worthwhile to say,
Let somebody know it
When opportunity knocks don’t blow it
You never know when inspiration will hit
When it does, just go with it
