For too long, he’d let himself slide

slacked off on his exercise

but recently he’s started

to get back in the swing

of things

His muscles ached and screamed,

but he knows he’s alive

by the brutal but beautiful burn

that he feels inside

He’s got energy like he did

as a kid,

he thought that was long gone

like a lost friend

but he’s glad to have it again
