Texas Legends

Listened to old Jackie I.

covering Guy Clark,

It could bring anyone

to joyous tears,

It was such a sweet

awesome tribute

beautiful music to my ears,

They are two true

Texas music legends,

Some of the best

that I have heard in years

This poem is inspired by Jack Ingram’s tributary cover of the late Guy Clark

Desperate Clichés

It’d be funny if it weren’t so pitiful

I’ve got to admit,

“country” singers constantly

dropping desperate clichés,

tripping over themselves

to establish their hillbilly credit,

& the arguments/feuds, I’ve heard a few

at least a time or two,

Really ridiculous too,

the weirdest whiny line I ever heard

Here it is now, word for word

Is “I’m rednecker than you”

There’s a country blues man named Justin I heard today,

the way he plays guitar blew me away

It was not just the sound, though that was more than okay,

By far the most awesome thing

was watching as he made his fingers

dance all over the strings

He’s not a man looking for fortune or fame

but his talent puts many famed players to shame
