(In Memory of) Naioka Gray

I can’t stand to read tributes

on your Facebook page

Reminding me constantly you’re gone,

something I can’t change

I can only hope & pray

you’re in Loving angels’ embrace

You’re missed more than I can ever say

Untitled New Poem

There may be ravenous “werewolves”

and “vampires” around

People who’ll try to take the dreams

you’ve built and tear them down

Never let the beasts beat you

or break your heart

Most of all never apologize

for being true to who you are

I did something a bit different, I took a word I heard today and wrote a spontaneous poem around it. May do it again in the future.

Music Therapy (Poetry)

I’ll tell you something that really helps me

Music as therapy,

I love how music can soothe the soul

When you’re feeling down & empty

It can really fill the hole

Whatever you’re dealing with,

just take your music off the shelf

It can say things for you

when you can’t express them yourself

Gypsy (The Music Man)

Seems like he’s spent

most of his life on the highway

He’s part poet, part modern day gypsy

He was born to roam

he couldn’t even tell you

the last time he was home

He’s got people that love him,

people that miss him

It’s not always easy,

sometimes it’s straight up lonely

but every night he hits the stage

playing his songs

it sends a thrill through him

when he hears people sing along

In his life he’s traveled thousands of miles

If his music really touches a soul once in a while

that to him is what makes it all worthwhile

Untitled Poem

I wrote this a long time ago, originally intended as part of a song.

He hides secrets with “white lies”

Secrets that leave his soul to cry

He fights for every breath each day

Just to stay alive

He hides his pain with “I’m alright”

Knowing no one can see

inside his heart & mind

When his tears fall,

they fall in spades

Truth is he wants

to break his chains

If he could only find a way

Name Dropping (Poem)

In “Country” music today
There are so many
fakes and flakes

They’re playing games
and getting paid
for name dropping

They name drop the legends,
Like Jennings, Cash and Jones
but who they were?

They wouldn’t even know

They are transparent,
Their insincerity shows
they show little respect
for down home country soul
