Lying Leaders

I’m not thrilled with many these days

a lot of them are hacks,

that may hurt some feelings

but I’m just laying out the facts

Many may make promises

but rarely do they keep them

I’m writing of politicians,

It’s so hard to believe them

Don’t get on my screens,

and lie morning, noon, & evening

Doesn’t your conscience bother you,

when you go around deceiving?

Healed Heart

He remembers how when he was a younger man,

he’d had a heart of stone, he did all that he could

to keep people at arm’s length,

he thought letting them in

just wasn’t worth it, the price that he would pay

if in the end, they never stayed anyway

but then one day, real love it came,

in fact, it wouldn’t leave him alone

It changed him & it healed him

when it made his heart it’s home

Glad To Have It Again

For too long, he’d let himself slide

slacked off on his exercise

but recently he’s started

to get back in the swing

of things

His muscles ached and screamed,

but he knows he’s alive

by the brutal but beautiful burn

that he feels inside

He’s got energy like he did

as a kid,

he thought that was long gone

like a lost friend

but he’s glad to have it again

“Hello”-A Love Poem

His voice was full of gravel,

like the years had taken their toll

the funny thing though,

is he wasn’t that old,

he was in love with a gypsy woman

with a heart of gold & eyes black as coal

He stood in her doorway, shaking off bitter

winter cold, then he pulled a ring from

inside his old coat pocket folds

He said he’d “be the happiest man alive”

if he had her forever to hold

She smiled wide and she said “yes”,

her deep dark eyes glowed,

she said “you’ve had me for so long,

almost since the day you said “hello”
